x1 London Cru Chardonnay 2022 (England, UK)

Over the last decade, English Chardonnay has ramped up a level, with land in the south and east increasingly talked up as under watch from their French neighbours.

Conditions are cold and ripening Chardonnay for still wine remains marginal. In years like 2020 and 2022 however, they yield an exciting wine. High acidity on show here, with clever winemaking to ensure a texture to balance. Grippy and exciting, it reminds us of the wines of Chablis in yesteryear.

x1 Yalumba South Australia Y Series Chardonnay 2022 (South Australia)

Australia’s most historic family-owned winery know a thing or two about producing excellent wine. The Y Series is unoaked, but allowed to mature on the fine lees for complexity.

Beautifully delineated and undressed Chardonnay, that feels a long way from the blousy reputation of Australian Chardonnay.

x1 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Bourgogne Les Crenilles 2021 (Burgundy, France)

Christine Gruère-Dubreuil and her daughter Clémentine are based in Pernand-Verglesses, producing white and red Burgundy from Bourgogne through to Grand Cru classification.

A house favourite, ‘Les Crenilles’ is a single site just outside of Pommard, and among our best Burgundy buys. Ticking the boxes for that Burgundy point of difference, and overachieving at this price tier. 

x1  Domaine Vieux Bourg Beaujolais 'Clos du Vieux Bourg' 2020 (Beaujolais, France). 

Fruity and saline the colour is pale, crystalline yellow which in time will change to gold. The nose expresses lovely white flesh fruit whilst the palate has the subtle citrus fruit flavour of pomelo. The vines are naturally grassed every other row to avoid too much vigor, the other is worked to make the roots of the vine plunge deep into the soil.
