As part of our ongoing highlight on Gamay, we’re delighted to bring you a special case of expressions from our range at Radford Dale and producers we hold in high esteem from the Gamay heartland of Beaujolais, in the southern region of Burgundy.

Our project with Gamay in the Cape is well under way (read more here), and we’re thrilled at the gains made and reaction to the wines to date. From our sister company, Radford Dale Imports, we’ve long championed the exceptional quality to value on offer from Beaujolais, with some 50+ examples now available within our portfolio.
Beaujolais is on a role and with recent features via the likes of Neal Martin at Vinous: “The Future is Beaujolais”, the scene is fast changing as the market catches on and demand soars.

'Discover Gamay' Case includes the following 6 bottles:

2 x Radford Dale Vinum Gamay 2024 (Stellenbosch)

Another relatively new wine to the Radford Dale stable, it’s a variety we hold in high esteem and this bottling – in part - comes from the first plantings of Gamay in over 20 years & a site we have established on the Polkadraai hills. This site also serves as the mother block for quality cuttings going forward, which we have used for a new vineyard at our organic Elgin farm and a new block in the Helderberg. There are less than 10 hectares of Gamay currently planted in the Cape, most of which end up in a Radford Dale bottle.

1x Domaine Raphaël Chopin Beaujolais-Lantignié ‘La Savoye’ 2022 (Beaujolais)

Chopin’s original family vineyard, ‘La Savoye’ was established by his great-grandfather, with a core of the vineyard today planted in 1905 and painstakingly rehabilitated under Raphaël. Whilst humbly labelled as a Beaujolais-Villages, Lantignié is seeking to become the 11th Cru of Beaujolais.
Of real interest, is the vigneron association of Lantignié. Should the appellation become a classified Cru, it will be made up of 100% organic certified producers. A first in the world of wine

1x Domaine du Clos du Fief Julienas 2022 (Beaujolais)

Domaine du Clos du Fief is run by Sylvain Tête, the fourth generation of the domaine. They are based in cru of Juliénas, a small appellation in the north of the Beaujolais region and so named by the Romans in the time of Julius Caesar.

Vines are grown on the high-altitude hillsides of Juliénas and Sylvain keeps cellar practices uncompromisingly traditional. Serious, mouthwatering expressions of Gamay.

1x Chateau de la Chaize Brouilly Les Deux Amis 2022 (Beaujolais)

Château de La Chaize is among the oldest, most historic estates in Burgundy’s Beaujolais region. Cared for by the same family for nearly three and a half centuries, the estate has been passed on to new owners, the Gruy family, who are equally committed to managing the estate with the utmost care, while implementing an ambitious environmental plan. Among the many initiatives is the conversion of all vineyards to organic farming, the adoption of precision viticulture, reducing carbon their carbon footprint, and recycling every by-product from viti- and vinicultural activity, to achieve zero waste.

The estate covers nearly 300 ha of contiguous land, including 100 ha of vines in Brouilly.

1x Domaine Taupenot-Merme Bourgogne Passetoutgrain 2022 (Burgundy)

Domaine Taupenot-Merme is located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in Morey Saint Denis. Under the reins of siblings, Romain and Virginie Taupenot it is an address in ascendancy.  The top wines command eye-watering prices, but then there is this Passetoutgrain. Translating loosely to ‘chuck it all in’, Passetoutgrain is a rare Burgundy blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Gamay. As it turns out, a brilliant combination!

Characterful and utterly delicious, we challenge anyone not to be seduced by this one.
