radford dale releases the 2024 vintage of the organic estate collection
the 3rd Vintage....

a note from the winemaker, Petroné Thomas
2024 is a vintage where nature spoke, and we simply listened.
The winter preceding our 2024 harvest wrapped the Elgin Valley in a deep chill — just the kind of winter vines dream of. With enough cold units to ensure even budding, the growing season began with promise.
But nature is rarely predictable. Early spring in the valley we had gusty winds and rainy days which brought their share of challenges. Yet, as summer arrived, the rhythm shifted. Warm, sun-drenched days followed with crisp, cool nights — a diurnal embrace that would shape the soul of our wines.
The season’s trials brought forth something rare: smaller yields, yes, but with them came intensely focused fruit, elegant ripeness, and beautifully vibrant acidities.

Radford Dale Freedom Pinot Noir 2024
16.5/20
Strawberry-sweet fruit embroidered through a fan of feather-soft, quill-spined tannins. Very gentle undertow of fresh mushroom, autumn humus and chipotle almost hidden under the generous swathe of fruit. A total charmer!
Radford Dale Higher Purpose Cabernet Franc 2024
17.5/20
You can smell and feel the cool climate of Elgin in this long, cherry-scented, fynbos-fragrant wine of limber tannins. The wine has a serenity of deep, red fruit, like a pool, a surface holding hidden depths beneath mirrored stillness. But draw closer and you hear the soft lapping of the edges, clear as glass, water sucking stones and the sweet decay of leaves and herbs fringing the water into an iodine tang of minerality. An exceptionally elegant South African Cab Franc.
Radford Dale Touchstone Chardonnay 2024
17/20
I tasted this at room temperature at first (got waylaid after setting the tasting up), and what impressed was how the structure, fruit and full integrity of the wine held up – it wasn’t remotely compromised by being tasted at what was probably around 17 deg C (~ 62 deg F).Creamy, roasted oats and Bircher muesli on the nose and front palate as the mid palate fills out with nectarine and cooked apples. Fennel and tangerine the drawstring bringing everything in to a calm cleave on the finish. Cold, you can feel the raciness of the acidity and the structure is more clavical, accentuating the long graceful neck of fruit rather than the amplitude of it.
Radford Dale Revelation Semillon 2024
17.5/20
Another stunning Semillon exploding out of the Radford Dale stable and racing, muscle and sinew, to the edge of the horizon. From smoky start to smoky finish, it’s a wine that is haptic with power and asterism. The fruit is restless with tension, prancing from citrus to stone, from citrus to stone. And the acidity seems to turn to minerality, like lithic reduction in the mouth. I was gutted to see that it’s not available in the UK and the US – it would have made ‘Wine of the week’ if it was.

Touchstone Chardonnay 2024
Pear, peach, citrus, green apple and orchard blossom on the nose. Great clarity of fruit and plenty of drive before a pithy finish. Poised and tense, it celebrates restraint over richness – for those who like their Chardonnay steely rather than buttery… Alc: 12.5%.
CE’s rating: 96/100.
Revelation Semillon 2024
Marked reduction on the nose, though peach, nectarine and potpourri emerge with patience. Concentrated and vibrant on the palate, finishing deeply savoury. Geeky but compelling. Alc: 12.5%.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
Freedom Pinot Noir 2024
Matured for 12 months in barrel, 10% new. A touch of reduction precedes strawberry, cherry and musk on the nose. Elegant and tightly coiled on the palate with much more purity than the difficult 2023 vintage. Light and fresh with powdery tannins. Alc: 13%.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
Higher Purpose Cabernet Franc 2024
10% whole-bunch fermentation; 90% matured in concrete egg, 10% in barrel. Subtle flinty reduction before red berry, red apple, rose and appealing herbal lift. Pure and zippy with fine-grained tannins, the finish nicely dry. Clean, poised and remarkably complete at 13.5% alcohol.
CE’s rating: 94/100.

Radford Dale Revelation Organic Semillon 2024
92/100
Petrone Thomas sources this barrel-fermented, cool climate Semillon from a couple of blocks on the farm. Flinty, focused and showing some appealing underlying tension, this is a subtle, herbal, understated expression of the grape of the variety, with notes of petrichor, parsley and fennel and a citrus fruit core
Radford Dale Touchstone Organic Chardonnay 2024
91/100
Touchstone comes from three organically certified blocks in Elgin and is a wine that goes very light on the new wood, using just 5%. Tangy, toasty and acid driven, despite going through 85% malolactic, it’s youthful, pithy and bright with a chiselled citrus zest core.
Radford Dale Higher Purpose Organic Cabernet Franc 2024
94/100
Higher Purpose is a very exciting Elgin Cabernet Franc from Alex Dale and his team. The vines are still young at eight years of age, but this has subtle whole bunch top notes, layers of bramble, paprika and red cherry, fine-grained tannins and an understated petrichor top note.
Radford Dale Freedom Organic Pinot Noir 2024
92/100
Reflecting owner Alex Dale's love of Burgundy, this uses the 115, 667 and 777 Dijon clones. Aged in just 5% new wood, it's very much a cool climate style, with rose petal and saffron aromas and a palate of redcurrant and wild strawberry supported by sinewy tannins.
